FILM SCORE

I wrote this piece as the musical score for a film I made about climate change and how kids can help.  I wrote the piece in a minor key to show how serious the issue is. I used two main instruments for the melody - a piano and a guitar. The two instruments represent different ways of thinking about if climate change is real. Each instrument has the same serious tone, but the melody varies between them.  At the end of the piece, the two instruments share a single melody showing that the two different sides are now in agreement.

I composed each of the melodies on my piano and then copied them into Garage Band.  I selected each instrument because I am learning to play them.  I have been playing piano since I was 4 years old, guitar since I was 8 years old, and strings (viola) for the last two months.  I like music composition because I get to experiment with different instruments.  I like seeing what the melodies in my head look like in sheet music.  I heard “Peter and the wolf” in music class last year and liked the idea of having an instrument stand for a different opinion on climate change.  My title comes from a quotation from teenage climate activist Greta Thornburg, “…you are never too small to make a difference.”  Kids have powerful voices, and I hope my film and this musical composition encourages everyone to use their voices to make a difference.  I am very happy with the way the music composition turned out.
